Brick City Bios: Rye Coalition

leave a comment »

Forged in the fires of the NJ/NY 90’s hardcore scene, tempered in the local rock scene in NJ and ultimately battle tested on the national touring circuit, Rye Coalition is Ralph Cuseglio, Justin A Morey, Jon Gonnelli, Herbert Wiley V and David A Leto. New Jersey’s Hard Luck Five are veritable legends in this scene. Foot stumping, heart pounding through and through hardcore. The tale of their rise and fall is as relevant and auspicious as Icarus’ or Lucifer’s. They are reforming to help spread awareness for their upcoming rockumentary: Rye Coalition: The Story of the Hard Luck Five. Check out the trailer and try to hold yourself together for just another week and a half!

Brick City Bios: No Pasaran!

Jersey’s post hardcore heroes Eric Mason, Thomas Barret and Romel Espinel are No Pasaran.  Veterans of the local scene, they specialize in no nonsense clenched fisted political rock.  In a recent interview with Jersey Beat’s Jim Testa Romel was quoted, “We’ve always felt like we speak for the downtrodden, for the disenfranchised.”  There’s no better way to express it, aside from when they’re playing.  They just put out an EP “Porter in the Making” through Killing Horse Records give it a look!

More many merely records Tiny Giant is a local rock support group (Hello, I’m Zac Clark and I’m a rockaholic).  Emcompassing, so many bands a list would be ridiculous, Brick City Sound Riot is as much a brain child of this community as it is anyone’s.  Although the homebase in located in the seedy depths of a New Brunswick basement, it’s tentacles reach as far as Brooklyn and even toward Philly.    Tonight they are releasing a compilation with 7 bands it goes live at 7pm get it while it’s hot!

Brick City Bios: Killing Horse Records

Michael Sylvia and Ryan Gross love music.  That much is undeniable (You should see these cats represent at shows).  Killing Horse Records started in a Kearny, NJ apartment.  Two cats with a love for music and a knowledge for that art, helping their friends get something physical out of their music careers.  Now five bands strong (Ben Franklin, No Pasaran!, Cicada Radio, Secret Country and Invisible Lines) they are quickly becoming a household name in the underground New Jersey rock scene.  That said, their parties are not to be missed, and you can expect them both to be on the front lines at the Brick City Sound Riot.  Actually, Mike will be on the front lines, and Ryan will be in the sound booth, but you get the picture.

Brick City Bios: Nico Blues

Sometime in the late 90’s garage rock got moved to the basement (It was probably because your Uncle John moved in and refurnished the garage).  In the basement, with the funny smells and the too low ceilings, garage rock transformed into basement rock.  That’s were Reed Adler, Skylar Adler, Eric Goldberg, Evan Campbell and Daniel Goldberg come in as the Nico Blues.  Catchy guitar hooks, and memorable choruses, it’s a perfect recipe for the New Brunswick night scene where the music is actually underground.  Check out their LP aptly named “Blame the Boredom, Blame the Basements” on Bandcamp!

Ever been Hornswaggled?  Are you on the run?  In upto your ears in credit debt?  Secret Country understands.  Eric Mason, Jay Monaco, Joe Hart, Matt Siegle, Tim Siegle and Yan Izquierdo ain’t just whistling dixie.  Songs about women, songs about whiskey, hell, songs about hot dogs… how can one go wrong?  There’s a serious desire from crowds to jump in their competition orange Dodge Chargers and make a break for the county line when these rough ridin’, fast talkin’, high falutin’ good ole boys get down and dirty.

Brick City Bios: Ben Franklin

Billy Gray, Eddie Garza, Sarah Tomek and Adam Copeland are gonzo rockers Ben Franklin. If you could personify a breach of etiquette and then translate it musically, you’d fall short of the mark of attempting to describe the subtle rabble rousing these four are responsible for. Imagine Red Sonja, Hunter S Thompson, Greg Ginn and Ron Paul wrote music together. Rumor has it there’s a new LP in the works.  In the mean time, sharpen your senses on there previous LP “Optimist” or their newer EP “Urgency”.

Brick City Bios: Meet/Pause

Scott Thompson, Graeme Gardner, Keith Laviola, Sean Favre are New Brunswick’s emergency rock get-up Meet/Pause.  They have a mercurial sound that ranges from temperate tracks of a nostalgic nature to tyrannical tirades about love loss.  Comparisions to Get-up Kids and Osker come to mind, but Scott and Keith’s guitar keys trade off combined with Graeme’s drum work and Sean’s bass bring something unique that’s impossible to categorize.  Their new EP is slated to become an underground classic, get free at bandcamp!

Brick City Bios: Holy City Zoo

Coming to you fast and hard, Holy City Zoo brandishes post hardcore in that old New Brunswick way. AJ Russo, Joe Lanza, Frank DeFranco and Brian DePhillis Ambrosio have pieced together a sound so reminiscent of the town’s underground heyday that when they play there’s a 70% chance the Melody Bar will raise from it’s grave and start craving brains. It’s all thanks to intricate guitar work, guttural vocals and a rhythm section that seems to stand against the waves. Check out their new EP off Tiny Giant Records… And get ready to two step!

Brick City Bios: I Am The Heat

with 2 comments

Jameson Edwards, Julius Myren, Kevin Fey, and Mike Horaz are Brooklyn pop party rockers I Am The Heat.  Trouble is always just around the corner (along with about a gallon of whiskey) when these gentlemen hit the stage.  Jameson’s vocals and guitar provide the storyline to Julius’ Keyboard/Guitar combos.  Kevin lays down the bass and Mike supplies the chaos with drums.  If you like a good time? gladiators movies?  spotty memories of the night after a show?  You’re in the right place.  Checkout their Facebook for their music.
