Rocker Tycoon Day: Pretty Penny by Invisible Lines

leave a comment »

Invisible Lines has been in hiding for a while it seems.  In truth, they’ve been holed up in their studio working on new material.  We can expect some new tunes and a vigorous show schedule from these cats soon.  In the mean time check out this jaunty single they released in March.  It’s a song about finding a job and finding Jesus… where else?  but in the Classifieds.

Rocker Tycoon Day: Rain by Green Paper

leave a comment »

There’s something about Central New Jersey that pulls me back the 90’s.  And Green Paper is no exception.  Rain reminds me of that magical era of music during 95-97 when Grunge was faltering and pop punk had yet to cash in.  We had bands like Space Hog and Corner Shop and the Primitive Radio Gods.  But let’s focus on Rain for a second, damn this is an alternative epic.  So many cool changes and and really great use of what I’m positive is my younger brother’s Casio keyboard from 1986.  Well done, in style in recording quality and overall originality.

Rocker Tycoon Day: Thus Spoke Jeff Daniels by The Golden Age of Radio

Few things are cooler than the picture above.  I would fuck with that guy.  I think my grandfather once said there’s nothing more dangerous and cunning than a midget with a gun… yea my gramps called them midgets.  Let’s face facts, if you’re over 70 you don’t need to be PC.  Anyhow, we aren’t here to persecute my late granddad.  We’re here to talk about new music.  The song plays like the start of a travel movie in the 80’s.  Like the lost installment of Vacation.  Clark Griswold in Brooklyn, there’s a thought.  Anyhow it’s a nostalgic number with some great female vocals, and a little orchardian action. Listen to it, and pretend you’re first girlfriend isn’t married to some other guy… named Dan in South Jersey… with two kids… and a dog.

Rocker Tycoon Day: I Could Be Your Pet by The Nico Blues

I Could be your Pet – Nico Blues

I have to say I’ve been stuck on Nico Blues lead single off their new album since early this year.  It’s vastly unlike anything I’ve heard from them yet, but they still have that grungey  New Brunswick style.  I could be your Pet sounds like a desperate plea for acceptance, but it comes off genuine and and vastly aware of itself.

Rocker Tycoon Day: Kaleidescope by Black Water

Look who’s back like James Brown with a brand new bag!  Black Water returns to the front lines with a single off their upcoming sophomore album Friendly Fire.  This will be the first full length album to feature lead guitarist Gary Laurie.  Take a minute to really take this in… THIS WAS A HOME RECORDING!?  If this is a taste of what’s to come someone get me a bib, one of those little forks and some of that herb butter sauce.

Rocker Tycoon Day: Formaldehyde Face (Frito Lays) by They Live

Firstly, lets talk about great band names.  They Live certainly ranks up there with the best.  Check out their single Formaldehyde Face.  It’s a tale about a martian and a record collection and a life of general malaise and corn chips.  Oh and there’s a rant about Phil Spector.

Rocker Tycoon Day: Many Roads to Follow by Marvin Berry and the New Sound

leave a comment »

Love ain't easy. It a simple fact. Sometimes you win most times you lose and plenty of other times winning means losing and really it's a mess. But there's a silver lining in there some where. One good thing about heart ache is that it makes rock music resonant that much truer. Joe Porter and the gang from Marvin Berry are here to remind your ex girlfriend that she'll be back... And by then it'll be too late.
